At Santiam Ballet Academy, we’ve been helping Stayton stay stylish on the dance floor since opening our doors. Our highly trained and certified instructors have a wealth of experience in teaching and performing various styles and disciplines. We have a passion for the art of dance and for helping others build strength and confidence.

Basic movement is taught through the use of the dancer’s imagination. It encourages rhythm & body awareness, while focusing on balance, arm & leg coordination and counting skills.

These classes teach classical ballet technique, both barre and center floor. This technique will focus on body alignment, arm/head carriage, stretching and strengthening of the legs/feet and ballet terminology.
Jazz I
Ages 6-12
Class format consists of a warm-up to enhance core strengthening, balance, and extensions through isolations, rhythmic exercises, and floor stretches. Students study jazz technique, and learn to build complex combinations and routines set to fun and trendy music.
Creative Movement
Ages 3-5
This is a fun imaginative class where your little one will learn story telling through movement while including stretching, strengthening muscles, working on coordination and learning basic dance technique. We explore magical places, move to music, count rhythms and learn patterns. This class provides a great foundation to learning how to use the body in creative ways while building skills to grow in their dance capabilities.
Mini Hip-Hoppers
Ages 5-7
Hip-hop
Ages 8 - Adult
A fun and vibrant form of dance, Hip-hop combines a variety of freestyle movements that includes elements of popping, locking, breaking and jazz.
Youth Sports Agility
Ages 7-14
Designed for young athletes looking to improve their coordination, and overall athletic performance, this high-energy class focuses on agility drills, balance, and core strength. Each bi-weekly session introduces new challenges through ladder drills, cone work, reaction games, and bodyweight exercises aimed at building explosive movement and injury prevention.
To keep the momentum going between classes, students will be sent home with a personalized workout plan and a list of exercises to practice over the two weeks. These workouts are tailored to reinforce the skills learned in class and encourage consistent development outside the studio.
Musical Theater
Ages 7+
This class will teach stage presence, public speaking, self confidence, memorization, song and dance improv. This is a great intro to all things Broadway and theater!
Tumbling
Ages 3-7
Introductory to stretching and tumbling. Handstands, forward & backward rolls, handstands to bridge, cartwheel, etc.
Family Dance
Share the joy of movement and music in this special class designed for young dancers and their favorite grown-up(s)! Through creative movement, basic dance steps, and fun partner activities, students and caretakers will explore rhythm, coordination, and connection. This class focuses on bonding through movement, building trust and teamwork through gentle partner work, and creating joyful memories together.
Group tuition for up to 2 adults and 2 children is $90 per month. Each additional child can be added for $20. Families with dancers enrolled in other SBA classes qualify for a discounted rate of $60.
Adult Dance
This class is for adults of all experience levels who want to move, stretch, and express themselves through dance. Each class begins with a ballet-inspired barre warm-up to build alignment, strength, and grace. From there, you'll explore a variety of styles including jazz, hip hop, and lyrical, along with targeted stretching and conditioning to improve flexibility and core strength. Whether you're returning to dance or trying it for the first time, this class offers a welcoming environment, great music, and a full-body workout.
CHARLENE VOGEL

Academy Director and Instructor
Charlene earned a bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in Art and Dance from the University of Oregon and has over 25 years of training in the Vaganova and Cecchetti ballet techniques. She has starred in several leading rolls in numerous classical ballets including "The Nutcracker", "Swan Lake", "Giselle", "La Sylphide" and "Copellia".

She has extensive training in athletics and has competed in track & field at the collegiate level which gives her a unique skill set when it comes to teaching both dancers and athletes alike. She is passionate about providing a safe place for children to grow and helping them turn into strong, confident, disciplined, and beautiful young individuals.
CARL MASSEY


Hip Hop/Tumbling/Jazz/Youth Agility
Mr. Carl earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cornish College of the Arts, served as a professor of dance at Western Oregon University, and has taught younger children at the YMCA. He was a choreographer and dancer in the Hot Shots tap group featured on America’s Got Talent!
The kids are going to love the energy that he brings to the classroom and the wealth of knowledge and talent he has to offer!
ANNA VOGEL
Ballet/Lyrical/Tumbling Instructor
Miss Anna started her dance training at a young age and has been in class watching her mom teach since she was 2. Anna has been a big part of SBA from the beginning and has assisted in teaching for the last 8 years. She is now taking on some of the teaching and choreography responsibilities for some of our youngest dancers.
AIMEE HAMPTON
Musical Theater
Miss Aimee started her stage training when she was only 8 years old and continued through college. She is excited to share the magic that is the theater with the kids of this community and can't wait to watch as they find their confidence in being expressive.
